Woburn, MA/London UK, November 4, 2011 – RAMP, the industry’s leading Content Optimization platform for major online media publishers, today announced at the Mozilla Festival in London its support for the Popcorn.JS open source HTML5 video initiative. RAMP also announced today that it has launched the first commercial implementation of Popcorn.JS on http://www.PeoplesChoice.com , the website for the popular annual awards program The People’s Choice Awards. With this implementation, viewers are able to see contextually related information alongside the video, time-coded to moments in the video where particular celebrities, movies, and events are mentioned. RAMP was able to deploy this experience across thousands of PeoplesChoice.com videos using its highly scalable algorithmic approach to generating time-coded metadata.

As part of this initiative, Popcorn has been integrated with RAMP’s patented MediaCloudTM technology and RAMP’s award-winning MetaPlayer to deliver a unique and compelling user experience. In addition, RAMP has become a contributor to the Popcorn project and will be sponsoring the Popcorn Design Challenge at this year’s Mozilla Festival Nov 4-6 in London.

“RAMP’s unique technology and IP enables content publishers to produce time-coded metadata automatically and cost-effectively across the exploding amounts of audio and video content on the web,” said Tom Wilde, RAMP CEO. “The combination of RAMP’s capabilities and the Popcorn frameworks creates the opportunity to fundamentally change the way video is used to tell stories, communicate information, and entertain.”

"We're thrilled to not only see Popcorn used for such high profile properties as The People's Choice awards, but also with RAMP's contributions to this open source project,” said Brett Gaylor, Popcorn project lead for the Mozilla Foundation. “Their expertise in delivering great content at scale is a huge asset to our community"

Mozilla, creators of the popular Firefox browser, leads innovation in HTML5 video with ongoing support for the WebM Codec, The Open Video Alliance, and Popcorn.js. Popcorn.JS is an open-source HTML5 media framework, which enables content producers to connect video to related content to expand the video user experience. Mozilla is releasing Pocorn.JS 1.0 at the Mozilla Festival.
